We are introducing a weekly news bulletin to provide you with information of what is happening and current issues. Hopefully, this bulletin will keep you informed about our school on a regular basis. We will be trialling ‘Wednesday Notes’, where possible. This means that you will receive all notes, including the CIPS Weekly Bulletin on Wednesdays. So remember to check schoolbags!
Please ensure that the school has your current mobile number so that you are kept up to date with any important messages which may be sent via our text messaging service. As you know, we send text messages and have to call home from time to time. The school will not be held responsible if you don’t receive important information or we are unable to contact you if you have not provided updated contact details.
It has been noted that a number of children are arriving late on a daily basis. Of course, we would rather they were late than not in school at all. Nevertheless, lateness causes disruption to teaching and stress to the late child. Please ensure that children leave home in time to be in school, no later than 8.55a.m. The bell rings at 9am and it is important that your child is in their class lines with their peers. Parents are reminded that they must report to the school office if their child(ren) arrive late. The school will be working closely with the Education Welfare Service to look at measures to reduce lateness and would ask parents to support this by ensuring that children arrive punctually to school.
Congestion on the Cliftonville Road, both in the morning and again at home time, causes us great concern. Some people are parking up the kerb which can cause inconvenience and danger to pedestrians. In addition, we would remind parents that Easton Avenue is a private road and therefore should not be used or parked in. We would ask that parents take this into consideration when parking. Thank you for your co-operation with this matter.
All the children look very smart in their uniforms. We would like to maintain high standards throughout the year and look forward to your continued support. We would ask that all children wear black shoes.
From time to time, children fall out or incidents can occur between children. We encourage all of our children to speak directly to a member of staff when this happens in order to resolve the issue. As a school we will always attempt to resolve any incidents to the satisfaction of all concerned. With this in mind, I would like to remind parents and carers that they should not approach any child directly as a result of an alleged incident that occurred during school. We would ask that parents speak directly to the class teacher or another staff member rather than approach a child directly.
Free School Meals
We would encourage everyone who is eligible to apply to do so. This does not mean that your child needs to take a school dinner, but it gives the flexibility, should it suit you, to send him/her for dinners on a particular day. In addition, the school gets additional funding for pupils who qualify for Free School Meals; given that school budgets are being drastically reduced and costs are increasing, this will significantly help to increase our available finances. Application forms and further information can be found on the Education Authority web site or by contacting the school office. (028 9035 1638)
Don’t forget we will be holding an Open Day tonight (Wednesday 29th November) for all prospective P 1 and pre-school children. Please inform relatives and neighbours that have children who would be eligible to attend. The event will run from 5.30-7.30pm and is exclusively for parents of prospective pupils for our P1 and Pre-School children.

The school canteen will be holding Christmas Dinner on Thursday 7th December.
Free school meals and special diets will be available as normal. Any pupil who wishes to take dinner that day should tell their teacher by Tuesday 5th and bring £2.60 on the day. Children are encouraged to wear a fun Christmas jumper to the canteen on Thursday 7th.
The P1 teachers, Mrs Finlay and Mrs Verner, would like to ask parents and guardians if they have any angel or animal costumes at home that the school could borrow for this year’s Nativity play. Please speak to the teachers if you can help.
